HOSTEL LIFE AND GUIDELINES
Hostel accommodation is often to every first year National Diploma students and final year Higher National Diploma students.
The rooms are usually occupied by students as from 2.00pm on the day preceding the beginning of classes until 12.00noon on the last day of a semester.
VISITING HOURS IN THE HOSTELS
The revised rules of residence made it mandatory that visiting hour between the males and females in their hall of residence shall be as follows: Monday through Fridays 4pm to 8pm Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10am to 8pm and the visitors must sign in and out with their Students’ Identity Card.
STUDENTS ELIGIBILITY TO OCCUPY HALLS OF RESIDENCE
" Must be a first year National Diploma student or final year Higher National Diploma Student.
" Must not be a nursing mother.
" Must have registered with the institution and on payment of a prescribed amount for the accommodation.
" Must have certified a good health condition from the school medical centre and other requirements.
WHAT I MUST NOT DO IN THE HOSTEL
The revised rules of residence stipulate some measures towards peaceful co-existence in the hostel and the institution at large.
Some of these rules include:
" That on no condition should any student found fighting with a fellow student as this can lead to the student losing his accommodation in the hostel and even expulsion from the school as the case may be.
" Students are not expected to misuse the Polytechnic property in and outside the hostel.
" Staying beyond the stipulated hour of visit is highly prohibited.
" Pets are prohibited in the hall of residence.
" Pregnant student is not supposed to be in the hostel.
" Quiet hours must be observed in the hostels from 9pm to 5.3am on Mondays through Fridays and 10pm to 5.30pm on Saturday, Sundays and public holidays.
" No student is allowed to keep guests or visitors over night.
" Cooking in the hall of residence is completely prohibited as any student found wanting may loose his or her accommodation.
" Pasting of bills and posters anyhow on the walls of the hostel is prohibited as every information or notice is made available through the notice board.

GENERAL TIPS ON STAYING SAFE IN THE CAMPUS
HARASSMENT
Any case of harassment or threat should be reported to the Students’ Union Government Office located at the Students’ Centre.
The SUG officers will look critically into the issue and if there be a need, will forward the complaint within 24 hours to the institution Security Unit for an immediate action.
THREAT TO JOIN SECRET ORGANISATION
Be rest assured that the Polytechnic will always protect you through their anti–cult Ministry and the Security Unit of the institution when you make a bold step without being afraid to report any case of threat by any student or secret organization to join them. But be mindful of your activities and the company you keep and even your mode of dressing should not be a symbol of attraction to such threat.
ISSUE OF STEALING
In case of any issue concerning theft, report as early as possible to the Security Unit of the porters or the Students’ Affairs as the case may be.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
If any student or even your lecturer should harass you academically or sexually, such issue should be directed to the Students’ Affairs Office as an immediate actions will be taken to investigate the issue and due penalty will be posed on the student or lecturer.
ALCOHOL AND SMOKING
Selling and taking of alcohols and cigarette is highly prohibited within the in–campus as any person found wanting in this act will be seriously dealt with.
But students are advised to drink moderastely if there be a need for that.
A student may be expelled or suspended from the school if he or she is involved in such cases as:
" Involvement in protest and riot that can cause disruption of academic activities and damages to school properties.
" Fighting in the campus.
" Stealing from fellow students or school properties.
" Examination malpractice.
" Involvement in secret organization.
" Falsification of certificate etc.
SPORTS ACTIVITIES IN THE CAMPUS
Internal Sporting Activities.
There are several sports competitions vibrant and lively. One among them is the famous Rectors’ Cup which is an inter-departmental football competition which is usually organized in every academic session.
This is aimed at harnessing the talent of some students in their department and a handsome reward is usually accorded to the department that emerges first. Other football competition includes: inter–fellowship match, and association football competition etc.
External Sporting Activities
The Polytechnic is involved in several external sporting competitions within and outside the country.
Among such competitions include: the West African Polytechnic Games Association (WAPOGA) and Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) which is usually held annually as the case may be.
LIFE IN CAMPUS
MEDICATION
The students are always encouraged to visit the School’s Medical Centre in any case of illness or infections for special examination and treatment.
Such students must provide an evidence of his/her studentship through the medical card issued to him or her during registration.
SOURCING INFORMATION
Any student who feels like sourcing information may get that either from the Polytechnic Library or the ICT Centre.
TRANSPORTATION
The Students’ Union Government has a subsidized transport fare by the SUG Bus which is in addition to other transport companies like the EBO –COOP and motorcycle (Okada).
This helps in conveying the students around the campus to the town.
DRESSING CODE
Some departments has a specific dressing code and colour which is worn by them in a particular day of the week or at any event.
But usually, the students take it as a responsibility to go by Corporate dressing on Monday and Tuesday, conceptual attire on Wednesdays, jeans and T-shirts on Thursday and native attires on Friday s.
The school management frowns totally at indecent dressing.
CAR OWNERS ON CAMPUS
Any student may wish to own a car in or outside the campus, but the parking and security of such car is completely at owner’s risks.
BANKING IN THE CAMPUS
Currently, the Polytechnic has some banks inside the campus where students can save and withdraw their money at any convenient time. Such banks include: Fidelity Bank, First Bank, Zenith Bank and Polyunwana Micro-Finance Bank. Students can always obtain several banking services from these banks.
SHOPPING IN THE CAMPUS
Students can buy some articles in the shops within the campus. These can be in the hostels snacks bar, Students Centre, Mini-Mart and or alternatively travel to the main town to get such items as required by them.

" Cassa:Another name for garri.
" In-law: Male or female visitors.
" Error: To identify any mistake made by using wrong choice of words.
" Jokwa: Greeting.
" Nma–Jokwa:Meal considered to be eaten at home when one traveled.
" Jokwa–Rice:Food bought around the hostel other than the bukka.
" I Won Go Oh:Used when light goes off.
" I Won Confess:Usually to attract attention when a student wants to say any funny thing.
" Zion: Male hostel.
" Babylon: Female hostel.
" Abujaand Lagos:Each sections of the female hostel.
" Konko:Meals secretly prepared by the students in the hostel.
" Bukka:The students canteen.
" Brutals:Name given to the Mechanical Students.
" Talking-To:Refers to discussion between a male and a female student around the hostel.
" Time Do Go Oh:Usually used when a female or male student is overstaying the visiting hour in either of the hostels.
" Wakka:Used instead of expulsion.

REGISTRATION OF CLUBS AND ASSOCIATION
Any group of students may wish to register new association provided that the aims and the objectives is not against the schools rules and regulations and that the said association or club is not a secret organisation with hidden affairs.
MODE OF REGISTERING NEW ASSOCIATION OR CLUB
To register a new club or association the following must be provided and forwarded to the office of the Secretary General SUG.
A document comprising of the following:
" Aims and the objective of the said club or association.
" The constitution.
" Names of the formators with their registration numbers.
" Must pay a prescribe registration fee inline with the constitution of the Students’ Union Government.
RENEWAL OF EXISTING ASSOCIATIONS/CLUB/SOCIETIES
In every academic session, the existing associations/clubs in the institution are expected to renew their existence in the institution.
HOW DO I RENEW MY ASSOCIATION
Every existing association are expected to renew their existence by paying a prescribed fee to the Students’ Union Government account and then proceed to the office of the Director of Finance to change the teller to receipt, then, the teller is to be attached to the names of the executives and their registration number and forwarded to the Office of the Secretary General Students’ Union Government.
